Annual Campaign Exceeds Goal
TOTAL RAISED: +$78,000
+50% ABOVE GOAL
Before we get beyond the first month of 2022, we want to thank everyone who made our 2021 Annual Campaign the most successful in our 54-year history. Your contributions help us cover the cost of everything from field trips for students and grocery gift cards for their families to equipment for our expanding Culinary Arts training program and seed-capital to create an employee-owned urban farming company for people with behavioral health needs.
Be a Gala Sponsor
Excitement is building as our first Spring Gala in three years approaches and the list of sponsors grows. Among the first to sign up are Concensus Consulting, Crescent Cities Charities, DDA Love Foundation, EJF Philanthropies, NFP, Nino Vaghi Foundation, Partlow Insurance Agency, and Truist.
The theme of the event on April 23 at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner is Imagining Tomorrow’s World.
We envision a world in which all children receive a quality education and barriers to employment after graduation are toppled. The initiatives funded through our Gala are aimed at making the brighter future we imagine a reality for our youth and their families.

Community Conversation: Building a Workplace for EVERY Employee™
At PHILLIPS, we don’t try to force an individual to fit into a program, we tailor a program to fit the individual. That’s the thinking that drives the new nonprofit we’ve founded to help adults overcome barriers to employment. SpringForward is building social enterprises around the unique abilities and needs of workers using our EVERY Employee™ approach.
Panelists from the Aspen Institute and SourceAmerica joined us for this month’s virtual Community Conversation about the growing need for inclusive employment, the importance of high-quality jobs and the innovative solution PHILLIPS offers. Watch it on YouTube
SpringForward Makes News
SpringForward’s first project to bring healthy food to urban neighborhoods is attracting attention. WBAL TV News aired a story about our latest delivery of fresh greens grown in our indoor hydroponic farm to a corner store in East Baltimore as part of a pre-pilot project with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, which developed the Baltimore Urban Food Distribution (BUD) app to connect local farmers with retailers. A state legislator who represents the neighborhoods we’re serving has endorsed the project.
“I’m delighted by the potential of this partnership to improve healthy food access for Baltimore’s most vulnerable residents,” said Del. Brooke Lierman (District 46) “By using the power of collective purchasing and delivery, BUDapp has the promise to affordably move foods from local producers, such as the SpringForward’s hydroponic farm, to our city’s many corner stores.”
The project will expand to include 19 corner stores in March.
Healthy Eating Is in the Cards
Acclaimed chef Ken Blue is contributing his expertise to boost sales of our SpringForward greens.
Ken has created recipes for nutritious dishes to prepare using our fresh ingredients. The recipes will be printed on cards that will be available at SpringForward displays in stores to encourage shoppers to try our products.

Community 3D Classes Rescheduled
In the interest of maximizing participation and keeping everyone safe from Covid-19, we’ve pushed back the next round of 3D Design and Printing Community Classes. Instead of starting at the end of this month, the next series of Saturday classes at our Fairfax campus will run from April 16 to May 14, followed by another session May 21 to June 18.
