A New Year, A New Decade!

PHILLIPS Programs is honored to provide special education day schools, community and home-based counseling and career and technical education services to children, youth and their families throughout the DMV.  We are grateful for the trust placed in our programs and staff to ensure the youth and our families have the resources they need to thrive.

As we prepare for a new decade, we are enthusiastic about our continued work to explore ways to expand employment opportunities for our young adults as they transition from high school.  To support that effort, we are raising funds and awareness for our New Horizons Fund at our 25th Annual Gala scheduled for April 25, 2020 at the McLean Hilton Tysons.

Please Save the Date and visit our gala website to purchase tickets and learn about sponsorship opportunities!  Our youth want to work when they graduate.  You have the power to give them a #hand up as they continue to develop the skills necessary to become a productive and thriving member of our community!

Sincerely,

Register Today for our 25th Annual Gala!

PHILLIPS Programs 25th Annual Gala is scheduled for April 25, 2020, at the McLean Hilton Tysons!  Celebrate with us as we showcase the strides our youth are making in our Career Partners programs.  Our youth are building houses, developing skills in additive manufacturing, learning culinary arts and managing a hydroponic vertical farm.  Students work on both hard and soft skills so that they can attain jobs in these in-demand technical fields.  This is mission-critical work because the current systems supporting young adults with complex needs transitioning from school to work are not meeting the rising demand.  This year we are honoring three institutions:  Marriott International, Inc., The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation, and KaBOOM! for their work in partnership to build playgrounds across the country to provide for children who do not have access to safe places to play.  Barriers to play can be both environmental and behavioral.  To address this need, this partnership built a new playground at PHILLIPS School ~ Laurel last May!Therefore, this year's theme is P.O.P. The Power of Play!  It will be a whimsical event, featuring delectable food, our signature baskets, entertaining activities, and fabulous auctions.Take advantage of early-bird pricing and purchase your tickets today!

Thank you to our 2020 Sponsors to date!

PHILLIPS Programs offers Autism diagnostic assessments!

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that affects communication, social interactions, play, and behavior.  Diagnosis can be crucial in obtaining appropriate interventions and therapy for ASD.We are able to offer the combination of the ADOS-2 and ADI-R assessments, as well as a comprehensive Autism diagnostic package. The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) is a standardized instrument for diagnosing and assessing ASD.  The following areas are assessed during the ADOS:Communication (verbal and non-verbal)Social InteractionPlay and use of materialsRestricted and repetitive behaviors and interestsThe Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised is a structured and highly standardized interview conducted with the parents or caretaker who is familiar with the developmental history and current behavior of the individual being evaluated. The ADI-R focuses on three functional domains:Language/CommunicationReciprocal Social InteractionsRestricted, Repetitive, and Stereotyped Behaviors and InterestsAutism testing can be completed for individuals ages 18 months to adulthood. Both the ADOS-2 and the ADI-R have been proven highly useful in providing information to inform diagnosis, as well as treatment and educational planning. The ADOS and ADI-R testing is completed by a trained BCBA and a final report with the findings will be completed.  The remainder of the necessary diagnostic testing is available with the comprehensive Autism Testing Package and will be completed by a licensed Psychologist. To learn more call, Paula Patrick, Family Partners at 703-658-9054Visit our Family Partners website by clicking here!
